Neurosis is a state of mind characterized by: oppressive doubt, inflated expectations, and the need to be constantly fascinated, i.e. fascination.
It is an inherent part of everyone’s mental life. We tend to doubt, and by doing so, we often guarantee ourselves security. However, if you doubt everything, from buying a bottle of water to making a decision (whether you made it today, a few years ago or decades ago, or maybe not at all), you are in neurotic doubt. This very doubt often becomes unbearable, especially when it comes to the need for a quick decision. Neurotic doubt plunges you into deep distress, the purpose of which is to worry and suffer, but not to make a decision! When neurotic doubt takes hold of you, the opportunity to love becomes an illusion and an addiction.
To wait is to stand. It’s one thing to wait for your train, tram, etc. But it is quite another to wait for opportunities, happiness, and achievements, which do not exist without activity. Consequently, neurotic expectation paralyses action and destroys the very ability to move, act, and achieve. This suspension (a kind of “paralysis”) serves our illusions about miracles, the coincidence of circumstances, etc. After all, the purpose of neurotic expectation is to make things happen, but only in our imagination and no more.
Children are the best at being charming. After all, the sources of enchantment are in the mythical thinking of childhood. Charm goes “hand in hand” with ambivalence. Children very quickly swap anger for joy and love for hate. Yes, all this is peculiar to a child, but it is unbearably hard for an adult to live with. The neurotic expectation is a “safety cushion” from life. This expectation guarantees neutrality in the perception of others, one’s desires, opportunities and prospects. After all, the primary goal of the neurotic expectation is that what is so desired, so dreamt of and at arm’s length never becomes possible and is never achieved.
Neurosis is a reality in which a person, by his efforts, forever “buries” his desires.
If you encounter such manifestations in your inner world, you need specialist help. Neurosis is beyond human control. It is part of a person you cannot escape alone! Neurosis hides in good intentions, total care, all-encompassing love or its opposite.
